Finya is an amazing site.
“Ah, but Gregg, these are only for women without…without friends! Aren’t they all weirdo’s? What’s wrong with them that they have no friends? I’d be embarrassed to be on one of those sites!”
Let’s get one thing straight - women on these sites are in transition, just like you are. They’re recently divorced, recently moved, recently lonely. They know there are other women out there to hang out with, but let’s face it, it’s not always easy to jump start a friendship on an elevator or in a shopping mall. These sites are awesome for getting to know people, plus they’re very similar to dating sites, which we’ll be going over in detail. You get to practice talking to people and setting up a cool profile without the stress of dating. There you go!
To go beyond women only sites, try Meetup.com. Meetup.com is bigger than all of the above sites combined, and you’ll be able to meet both men and women on a friendship basis, usually in groups. Best of all, these are groups of people who share similar likes and hobbies. They might be a certain age, enjoy a certain activity or share a similar history. You can find people who enjoy wine tastings, dancing, fitness training, parenting or anything else you want!
The first meet up is the hardest. You’ll be alone, you won’t know anyone, and you’ll either sink or swim. This is the only time I’ll suggest taking a married friend who’s willing to give you a push in the right direction. Once you meet people and you feel more comfortable, you won’t need your friend to accompany you anymore.
Pick up a hobby you’ve always wanted to do. If you’ve read any of my other books, you know how big I am on hobbies and outside activities. While meeting friends for lunch incentivizes you to get out there and talk to people, finding a hobby helps you to get out there doing things you love!
When you take on a hobby, what you’re essentially doing is investing in yourself. You’re saying you’re worth the time - you’re worth the effort of learning a new skill. This creates confidence, which in turn allows other people to see a more impressive “you.”
The bonus is you’re meeting people who share a similar passion! These people may be married, divorced, young, or old. What brings them together is their love of that hobby. It could be knitting, CrossFit, dancing—you name it, there’s probably a group in your area doing it. Just Google® it and act on those search results!
I want you to act on at least one of these ideas right now. You can create a profile on one of those friendship sites, head over to Meetup.com, or Google a local class in your area. Before you go on another date, I want you to have a hobby in place and a friend or two who you go out with regularly. Before you know it you’ll have a social life that makes you feel good about yourself, and will make you even more attractive to the men you date.
There’s nothing sexier to a man than a woman who makes them work for each and every date. Staying busy is one of the key ingredients to getting an amazing guy.
